An Unexpected Unforeseen Fall Out of a Power Cut

An Unexpected Unforeseen Fall Out of a Power Cut by Dinesh K Kapila I just got to know this today. With power cuts all over the nation as the demand for power escalates with each hot and humid day, people swelter for hours with generators and invertors. We are lucky in Chandigarh to escape the worse of it. Then there are stories around power cuts. Of couples booking hotels to escape from the heat or of a well to do businessman accommodating both his wife and his mistress in the same hotel. But this incident from reportedly a major commercial city of Madhya Pradesh takes the cake. A boy named Rajesh, a young lawyer in the corporate sector had been out drinking beer with his friends. Around 12 am they dropped him at a roundabout close to his rented house. It was a rather tony locality. As he started walking, somewhat unsteadily, the beers had many one to many, he found the road rather dimly lit and dark. He walked on carefully and then crossed a guy sitting on the pavement just ou...

The Interview for an accountant and Reality

The Interview I was chairing the interview for an Accountant for a major Not for Profit Organisation. Say a Society. They were looking for a long term commitment and a self starter. For me the education came in other ways. Many who had applied were from the private sector, a mix of manufacturing or businesses or service industry. When asked to describe their job profile they included - Candidate One After discussing with the CEO, the profit for the month is decided and then I convey to the CA and coordinate between the CA, Finance Manager and the CEO. The CEO is the son of the owner. Plus how much in number one and how much in number two! Candidate Two I work as directed by the owners, on how much in number one and then how to go about number two, seeking guidance from the CFO and CA on how to do so. Candidate Three On being asked about deductions for PF and providing for Gratuity etc. The consultant does this part as he and owner decide who are core employees, the amount of Dedu...

Banks – Rural – Operational Excellence / Other Aspects - A viewpoint. Loud Thoughts

Banks – Rural – Operational Excellence / Other Aspects - A viewpoint. Loud Thoughts.  By                   Dinesh K Kapila INTRODUCTION There are any number of committees which have written volumes on the subject of operational excellence in coop banks. We also have the answers being found in financial re-engineering, digitization and computerization. The latest being of computerisation of Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) and integrating the process with the District Central Cooperative Banks and the State Cooperative Banks. These are well thought out initiatives and policy decisions. But will they suffice. These are initiatives which will certainly yield results but somewhat below the line of what is really envisaged or expected. Then the question of the merger of the DCCBs with the StCBs, always in discussion, is this an automatic solution for all the gray ...

The question - it matters

T he Question First The Observation - At the fruit vendor. A high premium car. Hubby sitting in the drivers seat. Wife doing the purchasing. She was bargaining furiously. I had just reached and stood around. Now I do know this particular fruit seller has a mark up over other retailers ( he pleads quality) but her version was an aggressive "I pay so much, I know how much to bargain". In between she looked at me, trying to place me - this shorts and T Shirt guy with a walking stick, then looked away. I was watching the whole process, decided this could be interesting. She, with diamonds flashing on her manicured fingers, dived into the cherry boxes. She opened one packed box from the side very cleverly and ate first one cherry, after rubbing it on her jeans, I suppose to clean it. Then ate three more. Then she purchased another unopened box of cherries. Next she looked at the apricots. Opened one box gently, rubbed it, gave to the hubby and had one herself. Then when the hubby...
