The Interview
I was chairing the interview for an Accountant for a major Not for Profit Organisation. Say a Society. They were looking for a long term commitment and a self starter. For me the education came in other ways. Many who had applied were from the private sector, a mix of manufacturing or businesses or service industry. When asked to describe their job profile they included -
Candidate One
After discussing with the CEO, the profit for the month is decided and then I convey to the CA and coordinate between the CA, Finance Manager and the CEO. The CEO is the son of the owner. Plus how much in number one and how much in number two!
Candidate Two
I work as directed by the owners, on how much in number one and then how to go about number two, seeking guidance from the CFO and CA on how to do so.
Candidate Three
On being asked about deductions for PF and providing for Gratuity etc. The consultant does this part as he and owner decide who are core employees, the amount of Deductions, the numbers to be indicated or inflated or deflated, the mode etc. And I also work out the mode for cash in number two.
Candidate Four
Sir, I can coordinate with the CA for all issues, you have to let me know your requirements and needs and specific allocation . And personal priorities. It will done with accuracy and speedily and no problems will occur.
One candidate stated he got his salary in cash plus formally !
What can the Govt do. They were all into what i would call manipulation. This was purely transaction Oriented with clarity. I had to stress ethics and competence and loyalty to the Not for Profit. We could not select today.
I know the real world but did not expect such clarity and openness of this level

So much for ethics !
